Internship Snapshot

Company: Solid Biosciences

Location: On-site

How It Started: Found through NUworks

A Day in the Life

During her internship, Rydhum supported the HR team by working on talent acquisition, updating the Human Resources Information System (HRIS), and coordinating projects that improved internal processes across departments. Her role involved navigating the fast-moving HR operations of a biotech company and making meaningful contributions to how teams connect and grow.

Lessons from the Role

Biggest Learning: “Along with gaining hands-on HR experience in a fast-paced environment, I learned the value of asking questions early and staying curious. It helped me learn faster and contribute more confidently.”

Best Advice Received: “It’s okay to mess up sometimes. Just own it, fix it before it gets bigger, and don’t let it stop you from trying again.”

Wish I Had Learned: “I wish I had learned more about compensation and benefits. It’s an area of HR I haven't explored much, and it would’ve been great to understand better.”

Fun Moments and Challenges

Most Fun Experience: “Our day out with the other co-ops and managers. It was great getting to know everyone outside of work and just enjoying time together.”

Biggest Struggle: Adjusting to the pace at the beginning. “I was worried about asking too many questions, but thanks to my amazing managers, I learned that speaking up early actually helped me learn faster and feel more confident in my work.”

Behind the Scenes

Resources Wished She’d Used: “Honestly, I wish I had taken advantage of the gym more. It would’ve been a great way to unwind after busy days.”

Who Made It Memorable? “I’m really grateful to my HR team, Ashley and Allison. They treated me like part of the team from day one, trusted me with some important projects, and always made me feel welcome.”

Advice for Future Interns

Words of Wisdom: “Make the most of every opportunity. These six months will fly by faster than you think!”

What Interns Should Focus On: “Learning, asking the right questions, and making connections. There are some really smart and genius people around. Don’t be shy to talk to folks even outside your team.”

Turning Setbacks into Growth

Rydhum shares a memorable experience from her internship:

“My team let me sit in on panel interviews, which was exciting but also scary. I worried whether I’d ask the right questions or judge candidates properly. But by observing and chatting with the managers, I learned a lot and in the end, it went really well.”
